The Pentagon has officially confirmed the deployment of an additional 300 U.S. special operations forces to Somalia. This decision follows several deadly attacks by Al-Shabaab in the Jubaland and Lower Shabelle regions.
The general overseeing operations in Africa at U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) described the deployment as a response to the escalation of attacks against Somali forces and civilian populations. The U.S. Congress has been notified in accordance with the War Powers Resolution.
